Self-Service Locked Cases

Stop Choosing Between Protection and Sales

Indyme's Freedom Case is the world's only self-service locked case, helping retailers protect high-risk merchandise without making products harder to buy. Shoppers unlock the Freedom Case in seconds with a phone number or loyalty ID, while the same step helps discourage theft and creates a record of every access event.

The Tradeoff Retailers Should Not Accept

Protecting products should not cost the sale

Regular locked case protect product yet put revenue at risk and increase labor burden. Shoppers wait, walk away, or skip the purchase. Associates get pulled from higher-value work just to open locked doors. As more categories move behind glass, the cost of running traditional locked cases multiplies across the store.

Self-service in seconds, help as needed

A premium experience for good shoppers

At first glance, honest shoppers see an upscale display, not a locked case. Backlit products. Clean sightlines. Soft-close doors. They open the case themselves in seconds, take what they came for, and head to check out. No waiting. No searching for help. And if they want assistance, an associate is one tap away.
Trust but verify

Deterrence by design

An offender approaches and immediately notices visible cameras, a built-in public view monitor (PVM), and a prompt to enter their phone number. Most disengage instantly. If suspicious behavior happens, the system flags it in real time, and alerts store staff. Interactions are captured and securely stored in the cloud, delivering the evidence needed to support investigation and prosecution.

“Freedom Case has proven to be an invaluable asset.”

As Director of Security for Schnuck Markets, Inc., a regional grocery chain, I'm constantly seeking effective theft deterrents. I'm happy to share that the Freedom Case has proven to be an invaluable asset in our efforts to reduce theft, increase sales, and enhance overall security.

It's rare to find a product that not only protects merchandise but also contributes to increased sales. The Freedom Case is easy to use, provides a high level of protection, has an aesthetic appeal, and has been well-received by both our customers and teammates. I highly recommend it to any retailer seeking a dependable theft deterrent solution that doesn't hinder sales.

At the case, the shopper sees an interactive screen and chooses to self-serve or request an associate. For self-service, they read a privacy disclosure, enter a phone number or loyalty ID, receive a confirmation code, and the case unlocks. The process takes seconds. If they prefer help, the system alerts store staff through radios, smart devices, or PA. Other configurations with no PII are also available.

No. The case captures a photograph for after-the-fact human review only. It performs no facial recognition, no biometric identification, and images are not used to train models without written retailer authorization.

Because definitions of AI continue to evolve, the Freedom Case is designed with configurable detection features. The Freedom case detects events like a blocked camera and certain product interactions to trigger the right store response. It uses models that perform single bounded tasks and produce single numbers that are compared against configurable thresholds. It does not assess any individual, infer intentions, or evaluate characteristics for any person.

Phone numbers are used to unlock the case and to identify repeat access patterns so that suspicious behavior can be flagged and, where warranted, blocked. Indyme does not sell shopper data or use it for marketing purposes. Data retention is configurable to match retailer’s data policy.

The cloud platform gives retailers full control over access rules. Numbers linked to suspicious activity can be blocked manually or automatically, and the system can be configured to reject specific number types such as virtual or VoIP numbers. Research from the Loss Prevention Research Council found that offenders avoid using their burner “business” phones for petty theft, which makes identification a meaningful deterrent.

Privacy is built into the Freedom Case from the start, including configurations that do not require PII. When self-service is enabled, shoppers see a configurable disclosure before sharing information, provide active consent, and can opt out at any time. Data retention settings can be configured to support retailer compliance requirements. The system does not use facial recognition, and Indyme has partnered with the Future of Privacy Forum to align its practices with an Ethical Use of PII framework.
